Hogwarts welcomes three new faces: the HBO-produced Harry Potter TV series has cast Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley, Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle, and Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey.
The New Harry Potter Actors
This trio of actors will join the cast of the second season of Harry Potter—based, of course, on the second novel in the fantasy saga created by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Filming is currently underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, while fans await the debut of the first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, scheduled for December 25.
Spall will take on the recurring role previously played by Mark Williams in the Harry Potter films. A pure-blood wizard working for the Ministry of Magic, Weasley is the father of seven children, including Ron, Harry Potter’s best friend. Spall’s credits include the hit Sky series Under Salt Marsh and the Apple TV comedy Trying. Interestingly, he is following in the footsteps of his father, Timothy Spall, who played Wormtail in the Harry Potter movies.
Hewitt-Richards—who has appeared in the BritBox series Code of Silence and the BBC drama Casualty—will play the ghost haunting the girls’ bathroom on the second floor of Hogwarts. In the films, Moaning Myrtle was portrayed by Shirley Henderson.
Finally, Ambrose (Shaun the Sheep Movie) will play Creevey, a character who first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. An enthusiastic admirer of Harry Potter, he is often seen wandering Hogwarts with a camera. Hugh Mitchell played Creevey—a Muggle-born wizard and Gryffindor student—in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, though the character did not return for subsequent installments of the film saga.
